Just back from another SAPPHIRE NOW & ASUG Annual Conference and my head is filled with all the latest buzzwords. We heard much about “Digital Transformation”, “Cloud” (Public, Private and Hybrid), “Leonardo”, “DevOps”, “Agile Development” and of course “S/4 HANA”. I was a little surprised to hear so much of the “A.I.” term being widely used.
Merriam-Webster defines Artificial Intelligence (A.I) as – “A branch of computer science dealing with the simulation of intelligence behavior in computers” and “The capability of a machine to imitate intelligent human behavior”.
We all love a little A.I, but not exactly the latest buzzword I expected to be thrown around at SAPPHIRE NOW. This took me down the rabbit hole of wondering about how we use A.I. in our lives and more importantly, in our software. At RSC, our flagship product, Rev-Trac, leverages A.I. to predict outcomes based on the sequencing of transports.
This functionality called OOPS (Overtake and Overwrite Protection System) which looks at the objects in the transports, compares them to the other open transports throughout the landscape and determines the logical sequence of the transports based on the objects contained in said transports.
This is a fine example of “the simulation of intelligent behavior” and the logical outcome of this process would certainly “imitate intelligent human behavior”. Made me feel good knowing that we still fit into many of the latest SAPPHIRE NOW buzzwords with the proven functionality that we have enjoyed year after year.
